Can I get health insurance in Oregon while attending college there (non-oregon resident)?

I will be attending Portland State in Oregon and would like to have health insurance while I am there. I am legally a resident of Michigan, and I do not plan on changing my residency while attending school. Will I be able to buy health insurance in Oregon?? It seems like going to any doctor in Oregon with MI health insurance will be expensive since it's out of network. Also, I do not want to use the universities health insurance since it has very poor coverage.

The best option is probably to obtain a health insurance plan in Michigan that has a network that has doctors in Oregon.

Most Blue Cross and Blue Shield insurance companies have a program that allows you to pay in-network amounts when you are out of state and go to a doctor in the network of the Blue Cross or Blue Shield company where you are.

Can anyone give tips for taking the Oregon Life & Health Insurance License Exam?

They give you a "Lesson" online which is simply a list of vocab and definitions and very brief outlines of policies, then end with quizes that cover absolutely nothing in their lessons and even provide answers that don't apply.

That is why it is better to take a class instead of taking on-line classes. Go to an insurance school and see if they do a one day prep class to help you pass. It really helps.

Is it state law in Oregon that you must carry health insurance.?

I work in NC for a company that is based out of Portland, Oregon and I was told that I was required to carry there outrageous health insurance plan due to state law. Does anyone know if this is true and if so does it apply if you reside and work in NC?

OK, if you live and work in NC, you're subject to NC laws, not Oregon laws.

The ONLY state that requires health insurance is Massachusetts. Your employer cannot require you to be on their group health insurance, unless they are picking up the full cost.
