The Best of Louisiana
by Qandishah Brown
Celebrated in countries like Rio de Janeiro and Brazil, however if you are in the United States there’s no need to travel that far. Louisiana celebrates the Mardi Gras every year in New Orleans. This is one of the most popular carnivals that happens here throughout the year and is known all over the world. The festivities start on the twelfth night after Christmas and end forty six days before Easter each year.
Even years after the Mardi Gras first started out in the courts it is still celebrated. It has become popular for many reasons. The festivities include parades, balls, and the carnivals. You will also find that there is no much food to try out. The dishes that are served are Cajun and of course you can’t go without the specialty- King Cakes. These and more are the things that people from all over come for.
With all the people who want to take part of the Mardi Gras each year going there can be quite a task to do. OF course no one wants to miss the festivities so they go none the less. There are some things which could make your trip easier. One of the main problems that people encounter is accommodations. To make sure that you have somewhere to stay, book early. Some people book as early as eight months before.
When attending the parades and other festivities you will want to keep two things in mind: comfort and safety. Wear something that you will be comfortable in, there is no need to dress up. You can wear a costume at the last day if you wish but on other days be practical. Don’t bring any valuable jewelry or large amounts of money around with you. If you need to bring essentials it can be smart to store if in a fanny pack close to your body.
With all the people around when you go to the Mardi Gras it may not seem very enticing after all if you don’t like large crowds. You can always visit Louisiana at a different time of the year and you will find that there is still lots to do. You can enjoy other fairs and festivals; most especially the craft fairs and shows. You will certainly get a taste of something that is all authentic.
