I want to start a small business in Erie county New York, what kind of insurance and license do I need?

My friend and I want to start a small roofing and sinding buisness in Erie county, New York. I want to know what kind of Insurance I would need and would I need a special license to do the work, other than local building permits. It would be residential work, mostly roofing and siding.

Hi, Start calling insurance companies to get quotes. You probably need to check into being bonded also as you will be working at people's home. If you have employees you will need workman comp. When I opened a restaurant in CA it took me about a month to get all the paperwork in place for me to get started. Good luck to you.

Pls anybody can tell me which is the best insurance company in new york new jersey and connecticut to sell commerical insurance, business policy, workers compensation etc which company do best underwriting. which is the best company in this state. Pls let me know..

"best" is a relative term... are you looking for price, quick claims payment, long time in business, ratio of debt to assets, or what? get quotes from an insurance broker...they sell for many company's and will find you the best deal and they are working for you. Explain what you want that would make the company the "best" and go from there.

Jan. 9 (Bloomberg) -- Victims of Bernard Madoff ’s alleged $50 billion Ponzi scheme may have access to as little as $1 billion in assets to satisfy their claims, based on the value of his defunct brokerage, real estate, boats, jewelry and other property identified so far by liquidators and investigators.

Federal investigators said yesterday they found 100 Madoff- signed checks totaling $173 million in the investment adviser’s desk, ready for mailing. The trustee liquidating Madoff’s brokerage said he had located $830 million in “liquid assets” at the firm to meet claims. The brokerage itself may fetch $40 million in a sale “at best,” estimated Larry Tabb , founder of TABB Group, a financial-market research and advisory firm.

Investors caught in a massive fraud often incur large losses. Creditors of bankrupt Enron Corp., which hid billions of dollars in debt in off-the-books entities, received 36 cents on the dollar as of January 2008.

“Depending on the solvency of the persons sued, recoveries will probably be in the range of 10 percent to 50 percent of the amounts for which the persons are liable,” said Lynn LoPucki , who teaches bankruptcy law at the University of California at Los Angeles.
