North Dakota moves into fifth place in oil production
North Dakota recently passed Oklahoma and now ranks fifth in the nation among oil producing states. Lynn Helms, director of the Oil and Gas Division of the North Dakota Industrial Commission, said late last year that the state’s western oil fields were producing about 188,000 barrels of oil a day. Texas is first in oil production, followed by Alaska, California and Louisiana.
(1) First Predator arrives at Grand Forks (ND) Air Force Base
The first Predator Unmanned Aerial Vehicle arrived at North Dakota’s Grand Forks Air Force Base in December. The unmanned aircraft, which will be housed at the base and may begin operational flights as early as this month, is the first Unmanned Aerial System to be based near the northern border of the U.S. The Predator will enhance border security efforts and support U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel.
