If you own a small business with less than 100 employees or if you're a college student in need of affordable health insurance you may be in luck. Insure Oklahoma is a state program that is ironically funded by the state's tobacco tax. KTEN's Meredith Saldana has more information.
Insure Oklahoma's been around for several years.
It started by offering businesses of 25 or less insurance benefits, then expanded to 50.
Now beginning in March, they will be able to help business of 99 employees or less and 3,000 full-time college students ranging in age from 19-22.
Jane Seals, a risk reduction consultant, says her clients wouldn't have been able to afford insurance for their employees without the help of Insure Oklahoma.
Seals says, "It's extremely important to businesses in our area. As you know the economic conditions right now are somewhat unsure, unstable and one of the items that is considered a luxury is group health insurance. So, without this program here again I just do not see how employees could continue to provide group health insurance with out the support."
