Anyone know of a good insurance company in Texas for Home Owners Insurance?
Aug 10, 2007 by boydboylou | Posted in Insurance
I'm shopping for home owners insurance and I was wondering whats out there and is good and reliable.
To find a good, reliable company, contact an independent home owner’s insurance broker. A broker works with several companies, instead of just one, and can steer you toward the best policy for a home of your age, size, etc. To find a qualified broker in your area, log on to a website like http://www.homeownerswiz.com and fill out the form requesting a quote. The broker will then contact you. Keep in mind, the broker has paid the website for your contact info, so he or she is highly motivated to find a solution for you. Don’t worry, your information cannot be sold to other companies or used for any other purpose. Plus, you are not obligated to buy. Good luck!

will texas fair plan home insurance cover home repairs?
Oct 27, 2007 by memo_rdgz@sbcglobal.net | Posted in Insurance
the garage is all torn down, the home itself is in bad shape, according to the county appraisal the "grade" for the house is a D. we have tried to do the repairs ourselves, saving receipts and everything but it has gotten to the point where its too much to handle. by the way i live in houston, texas.
No, it won't. Here's how it works: you apply for the policy, you send in the full premium amount. You have to declare damages on the application. Within 10 days, they send an inspector out to look at the premises. They give you a list of repairs that YOU have to make, at YOUR cost. They give you 30 days to make the repairs, and if it's not done, they cancel your policy.
You have to pay for your own repairs and maintenance.

I have a home/mail/bills in Texas, but want to keep a car in California. How do I handle tags/insurance/DL?
Jul 27, 2006 by ALCORisHOPE | Posted in Insurance
I visit and sometimes do jobs in California for my employer, based in New Jersey. I just bought a home in Texas, but will be traveling alot to California, although I work everywhere (multiple states). I would like to keep a car in California, not garaged anyplace, maybe sitting at the airport or roadside. How do I handle licensing, tags, insurance? If I live in Texas, have a Texas license, and Texas plates, can I get insurance? What happens if a California police officer stops me?
You should consider an occasional use short-term lease from a car rental company in California.
Under your scenario you would have to license and register and insure the car in Texas. But since it would be sitting unguarded in California...the loss exposure is very, very high and you would pay astronomical rates for comprehensive (which covers stuff like storm loss, burglary, etc.).
You would be better off just to keep one car in Texas and when you go to California just get a short term lease. That way you can give it back when you are done and not have to worry about obligations.

Home left wrecked after adjuster's mistake - Texas Cable News
10.01.09
CEDAR HILL — Raising a teenager with cerebral palsy can be challenging. Just ask Voncilla Franklin, who cares for her 16-year-old son Roderick. "And the thing is, I don't receive any type of assistance," she said. But what has happened to Franklin's suburban home in Cedar Hill is frustrating. "It makes me sad to even come home," Franklin said, "because my house is not the way I want it to be and the way it was before prior to all of this happening." Here's what happened: After returning from work on December 15, she discovered a water leak in her guest bathroom. Carpet was saturated and tile was wet in much of her home. She promptly called a restoration company and her insurance agent. "The adjuster told me it was covered," Franklin said. "He was going to submit the paperwork. He told me I would be receiving two checks." One check would pay the restoration company; the second would be reimbursement for damage to her belongings, she said.
