Need home appliance protection insurance in Wisconsin?
Sep 15, 2006 by Diane L | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
Contact any realitor with an inquiry about a "Home Warrantee" - essentially, these warrantees cover your home appliances. Be sure to read the fine print to determine what is covered.
I personally think this type of insurance is a huge rip-off. Basically, the vendor that the warantee company picks to service any claim gets a $100 deductable from you, and then proceeds to nickel and dime you for additional repair cost issues that are not covered by your warantee.
If your appliances are fairly new, you'll most like be contacted by the store where you bought them, or the manufacturer to purchase extended warantees. I think these aren't worth the money either. Both Circuit City and Besy Buy make just about 95% of their profits from sale of these over-priced instruments.
But I have heard of at least a few stories where they've paid off.
Good luck.

My father forgot to pay a home insurance premium. Our insurance was cancelled. How can I get new insurance?
Mar 27, 2007 by elizabeth m | Posted in Insurance
I have tried to get a new policy, but most companies won't even give me an estimate. I have tried twice to get policies from companies that gave me an estimate but both companies didn't accept the payment. We are in Wisconsin and have never had an insurance claim in more than 20 years, so I don't think it depends on hurricane Katrina. I have been told that if I was a new owner I wouldn't have any problems, but we have had our house since 1945. Could I sell it to my husband? We have good credit and my father simply forgot to send the check (he was 92).
I have submitted requests twice to on-line insurance search sites. Their representative called and gave me a quote, which I accepted and agreed to pay by credit card, but they never put the payment on the card and I never heard from them again. Both told me no well known insurance company (Hartford, etc.) would insure us because State Farm had cancelled our insurance, so we had to use unheard of companies.
Our insurance was with our local State Farm agent, who returned the late check and refused to insure us. This is a new agent, but the same agency had insured us for years.
The house belongs to our trust.
I will be back in the US in July, so until then I can't visit the friendly local agent.
Something doesn't make sense. Is there something wrong with the house, does it need paint, new shingles?? Did you sign an application for a new policy? Insurance companies will accept a payment unless they are unable to insure the house for some reason. There is something else to this story that you either don't know or aren't telling us. Contact the companies that wouldn't accept the payment and find out why

Looking for auto and home insurance recommendation in Castle Rock, Colorado?
Nov 29, 2006 by PhantomPhenom | Posted in Insurance
We will moving from Wisconsin to Castle Rock, CO in January, 2007. We are building a new home there. We would appreciate any auto and home insurance company recommendations & comments in that area for the best coverage & service at the lowest cost.
There are so many good home and auto insurers that to single any one out is a disservice to all of them.
If you currently have auto and homeowner's insurance in Wisconsin and you are happy with the company(s), then just ask your current agent for an agent recommendation for your new location.
Be prepared. Wisconsin is among the lowest priced states in the nation for auto insurance (Colorado used to be among the highest until it dropped No-Fault insurance a few years ago...not it is middle of the pack). And, Wisconsin is the cheapest state in the nation for its average homeowner's premiums.
So, you are likely looking a pretty healthy increase in your premiums no matter what company you pick.

Wisconsin National Guard couples quickly tie knot before ... - Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
10.01.09
Appleton - With General Patton-like speed and efficiency, Nathan and Tera Preder planned their wedding - featuring 274 guests, 14 attendants, two flower girls, one ring bearer, dinner and music by a DJ - in less than three months. Unlike many betrothed couples, they didn't have the luxury of time because the U.S. Army has other plans for Nathan Preder, who will celebrate his first wedding anniversary in Iraq. Preder, 27, leaves today for Florida to train with about 3,500 other Wisconsin Army National Guard soldiers. Next month his unit mobilizes for more training in Texas before heading to Iraq for what is expected to be a one-year deployment. It's common for military members to marry shortly before overseas duty, perhaps because mobilization orders seem to be a powerful incentive to buy engagement rings. But when it's the largest overseas mobilization for the Wisconsin National Guard since World War II, the usual flurry of weddings has turned into a blizzard, as members of the 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team get hitched before leaving for Iraq.
