Finding restrictions on a California car insurance policy?

I was involved in a minor accident while driving my mother-in-law's car. I am on her policy, so assumed I would be covered, but was just told that I might not be because I was driving for work. Where on the policy does it show whether or not I was covered? I don't want to keep driving her car for work unless I am.
You're not going to like my answer. Most auto insurance policies do not cover the use of a car for business purposes unless you declare the business use to the insurance company so it can be used to properly rate your premiums.
Jobs like courier, pizza delivery, small package delivery, etc that is done with a privately owned vehicle (not company owned) must be declared to the insurance carrier, because you represent a greater risk due to the added exposure to traffic. Sorry, but you may not be covered. Please check the "Declarations" page of the policy.

How much is car insurance in California, in LA for example?

I've been seeing a lot of cars with California license plates in New York. NY insurance is expensive. I wonder if they do it because it's cheap there, or because they drive out here.
I want to know because I want to move out there.
Insurance is individaul, so what is cheap for me, may not be cheap for you. it is based on driving record, age, vehicle among other factors.

Where does it say this about car insurance in California?

I've heard on the news that it's now illegal for a car insurance company to change your rates based on where you live, at least in California if not nation wide.
Well, California law doesn't apply to the other states - each state makes it's OWN laws regarding insurance.
