Finding Life Insurance Company Ratings Indiana IN
Reader’s Question:
Where can I get information about how reliable a life insurance company is? I don’t think I can get unbiased advise from life insurance agents here in Indiana so I’m doing research on my own before I buy a policy.

Muncie, IN
Wouldn’t it be great if more people like you take the time to know how a particular (life insurance) company rates against its competition? It would probably save us all a lot of time, money and unwarranted frustrations in the future if we know how to distinguish between the good and the bad. It is actually not as hard as you may initially think! Consumers today have a lot of resources available to help them make better buying decisions.
Skip those life insurance agents there in Indiana, listed below are some of the best rating agencies and companies that you can go to:
• J.D Powers
• Moody’s Investor Service
• A.M. Best Company
• Standard & Poor’s
• Weiss Research
• Duff & Phelps,
These companies/ agencies would also have their respective websites that you can easily access to get rating information. You would want to compare companies based on Customer Satisfaction, Billing & Payments, Claims Handling, Customer Service, Financial Strength, and of course pricing and competitive rates. There is no single rule-of-thumb when choosing a provider other than being able to spot the best from the rest (and to avoid the worst) so you can make a short-list of potential life insurance carriers that you will choose from.
There are also many life insurance portals like this one that focuses on giving you free access to affordable life insurance quotes and be able to compare rates from many carriers at the same time. Using these resources will expedite you getting the best life insurance coverage based on your needs.

I am not moving there. My brother lives there and wants some help with some things.
Smiles, Life insurance covers lots of different things. Since I'm from New Mexico I'm not familiar with the Indiana laws and regulations, so I suggest you call a nearby life insurance agent. http://www.usinsuranceadvisor.com/Life-Insurance.html They should be able to assist you.

I need the current phone number & address of USA Life One Insurance Company of Indiana. ?
Aug 26, 2008 by tofwyf94 | Posted in Other - US Local Businesses
I know it used to be in Crawfordville, IN and under the name Ben Hur Life Association. I know the number is not 765-362-4500. I've looked online without any luck. Can anyone help?
You need to get in touch with the office of the Indiana Department of Insurance, which is responsible for keeping records on all insurance companies that are either headquartered in Indiana or are licensed to do business there.
I went to the Web site for the Department of Insurance, but I did not find any company listed as "USA Life One Insurance Company." There are a couple of companies with somewhat similar names, like the US Financial Life Insurance Company, the US Health and Life Insurance Company, and the United States Life and Health Insurance Company. But there wasn't anything listed with the exact name you asked about. Still, I suggest you start out by checking the Web listings:
http://www.in.gov/cgi-bin/idoi/ssDisplay-2.pl?file=LicensedCompanies
If that doesn't get you the information you want, you should talk with someone at the Insurance Department directly. The Office of Consumer protection is headed by Chief Deputy Commissioner, Carol Mihalik. Her phone number is 317-233-4243. Someone on her staff should be able to point you toward the current contact information for your insurance company.
I wish I were able to give you the exact address and phone number for the company, but at least this should get you started in the right direction. They can trace the history of names and ownership, starting with the Ben Hur Life Association. Even if a company is out of business, it's likely that some other company picked up responsibility for the policies. The Insurance Department will be able to tell you who that is. Good luck!!

Where can I find out about life insurance claims payed in Indiana?
Oct 30, 2007 by Charrish F | Posted in Insurance
My father died 8 years ago and his girlfriend at the time was one of the benefitries, my brother and I were under age, so the company never contacted us. His girlfreind called my mom and wanted our ss numbers. Several months after he passed she opened a bussiness and paid off a house. My brother nor I have yet to recieve any of the money. When I confrunted her about it she told me there was no insurance. That my father was lying about life insurance. What should I do. I do not know what company.
Insurance claims are private transactions. If you are either the beneficiary or executor of the estate, you can contact the insurance company involved in a particular claim.
Otherwise, it's none of your business, and private information. There's no database, so you can look up if your neighbor got anything.

Hartford, Lincoln Move Closer to US Aid on Takeover Approvals
10.01.09
By Andrew Frye Jan. 10 (Bloomberg) -- Hartford Financial Services Group
Inc. and Lincoln National Corp. moved a step closer to getting
capital relief from the U.S. government after a federal regulator
approved the insurers’ plans to buy lenders. Hartford won permission for its acquisition of Florida-based
Federal Trust Corp., and Lincoln was given approval to purchase
Goodland, Indiana-based Newton County Loan & Savings, the Office
of Thrift Supervision said on Jan. 9. Life insurers turned to the government last year to help
replace capital eroded by investment losses and slumping
retirement products. The industry lost $77 billion in surplus in
2008, according to consulting firm Conning & Co., and stock
declines of 50 percent or more at some of the biggest carriers
made private capital increases expensive. “The markets are effectively closed” to insurers seeking
to sell equity, said Doug Meyer, an analyst with Fitch Ratings.
“No one is really in a position to raise new capital
externally.”
