Do I have to pay my health insurance premiums while off work due to work related injury(workmans comp)Nebraska

I'm on TDD( temp disability) thru workmans comp. my employer just called telling me i have to pay my medical insurance thats due.

If you have medical insurance through your employer, you may need to pay for it to keep it current. What you receive for workman's compensation is not paid out of your health insurance. These are separate entities and, after a certain time on disability, your employer is no longer responsible for paying your health insurance.

With all the different health carriers and plans available most people really should use a health insurance broker. A Broker represents multiple carriers and can help you sort through all the different insurance companies and plan options in your state.

For example a typical broker can have access to 10 major carriers and 60 different plans just for one state.

You can try doing your own research on the internet, but if you give a good broker 5 minutes they will be able to make suggestions on which carrier may fit you best.

I suggest using yellowpages.com to search for health insurance brokers in your area.

Don't call your auto and home agent they specialize in property and causality insurance. You need someone that specializes in health insurance.

With that said being in good health you should consider a high deductible plan with a health savings account. It can save you quite a bit on premiums and create a tax savings for the money you do spend on health care.

Be careful of people talking about "alternatives to health insurance" they are usually trying to sell discount plans. These plans can be a good thing as long as you fully understand what you are getting ( a discount plan) and what you are not getting (health insurance).

i have to find a story in the media about how not having health insurance affects families.but i cant find one.

and i have to find out how many single people and familes dont have health insurance in new york, florida, and nebraska

The university lacks primary care doctors and specialists to vie with others in Omaha's competitive health care market. Within the next two to three years, it hopes to hire 50 to 60 physicians to help bring in more patients.

"That is the problem,'' said Dr. Robert Heaney, Creighton University's interim vice president for health sciences. "When the volume goes down, the revenue goes down.''

Shareholder obligations and amounts of charity care that most other metro-area hospitals don't have, as well as an older hospital, contribute to the problems.

"There's a lot of folks that just don't want to come to North 30th Street,'' said Fred Salzinger, associate vice president for health sciences. "We're in a facility that's 30-some years old. People like new.''

The clinics' shortages have contributed to the university's overall financial difficulties, said the Rev. John Schlegel, Creighton's president.
