Best private health insurance?
Sep 10, 2008 by Kaissie | Posted in Insurance
Hello!
I need to sign up for private health insurance and I am getting confused with all the sales people and plans!
I live in South Dakota.
Anyone have Private Health Insurance that can give me some advice?
There are plenty of good private health insurance companies in South Dakota.
Make sure that you stick with a large and trusted company like a United Healthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Humana, etc. and stay away from low coverage indemnity plans and discount plans.
Here is some more information on finding the best private health insurance and also some info specifically on South Dakota health insurance:

If I have a treatable but possibly fatal disease, and no insurance, will the US health system let me die?
Nov 03, 2008 by t0mthab0mb | Posted in Insurance
I live in South Dakota, from MN. I know MN has state coverage, does anybody know if SD has something similar. I'm worried about my girlfriend's Hyperthyroidism, she needs to see a doctor.
The government will not take care of you. Take a look at all the emergency workers that are dying from cancers and such that worked at 9/11. IF the government won't bail out "national heroes" why would they bail out the "average joes"? If the government just bailed everyone out when they couldn't afford something, there would be no point to private health care insurance and the countries taxed would be tremendously high to cover the costs of bailing out everyone that decided that planning for their future was not important. Don't mean for that to sound harsh or anything, but it's the reality of it.
Regarding taking out a loan, that would be fairly difficult to do without collateral. Most bankers won't go for the "I have a fatal disease so can you lend me some money? There's a chance I might die and I can't get life insurance to cover the loan, but can you help a brotha out?"
I wish there were more options for you, but that's really about it. Either find the cash to cover the medical bills or don't get the treatments. And about knowing someone in Canada? I don't think that would help at all, unless you do it fraudulently. In order to get our free health care you need to be a Canadian Citizen.

Birth control pills were not covered by Health insurance for years...?
Feb 25, 2006 by Miss Anthrope | Posted in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered
HOWEVER, as soon as VIAGRA came out, they were more than willing to cover it. Now, South Dakota has banned abortion. What gives? Do these unsettling facts bother you?
It is a popular belief that men make and spend more than women because they are "supposed" to take care of their family. If it comes to what a man needs, insurance is on it. They don't have to pay for birth control because in the long run in reality they don't have to raise or support their offspring. The courts don't help woman, the law doesn't help women, and the insurance companies, even though they are more than happy to take our premiums, do not help women. Look at the government. How many women do you see there. They keep enough to where the men don't get in trouble but how many are there? As women we just have to suck it up I guess.

Noridian lands big Medicare contract - Grand Forks Herald
09.01.09
BISMARCK — Fargo-based Noridian Administrative Services LLC will be handling more than 10 percent of the Medicare Part A and Part B claims nationwide after landing another big contract. Noridian, which is affiliated with Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota, plans to add at least 100 new employees in Fargo and an undetermined number at some of its other locations, spokeswoman Denise Kolpack said Thursday. Noridian has about 1,000 employees in North Dakota and 10 other states. About 700 of the workers are in Fargo. The company also has a Grand Forks office. The federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services this week awarded Noridian the contract to handle Medicare Part A and Part B administration for Minnesota, Illinois and Wisconsin. In July 2006, Noridian was awarded a similar contract for North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Utah and Arizona. The contracts, which the federal agency said each are worth about $1.4 billion over five years, are among 15 awarded under efforts to modernize Medicare.
