Teen Auto Insurance Premium Nebraska NE
Reader’s Question:
Hi, my son is going to get his license next month here in Nebraska. He will be getting his own auto insurance policy as he is buying a second-hand car, too. What should I know? Are there any tips you can give as I heard several horror stories about teens and their high auto insurance premiums?
Kevin
Omaha, NE
Hello, Kevin. I understand what you’re going through. My son used to be a part of my policy, and it did raise my car insurance premium a bit, and now he’s getting his own auto insurance coverage. They all have to grow up and be independent. The feeling of independence brought about by being behind the wheel of your very own car is, I still remember, really something. Our role, as mature and experienced drivers, is to, at least, guide them in the ways of being a responsible and safe motorist in Nebraska.
Now, teenage drivers will always get higher auto insurance premium rates, that’s a given. Statistics have pegged the teenage years as a magnet for accidents. Teenagers are not expert drivers, they’re rookies. They lack driving experience and because of that, they are considered high-risk drivers. It would take at least three years of driving before they are given regular auto insurance rates. Also, male drivers are quoted higher premium rates than female drivers. So, within their age category, female drivers get lower auto premium rates.
Also, remind your kid that any accident, ticket or traffic infraction he gets will have a bigger effect on his auto insurance premium. Us adults, when we get into similar situations, our auto insurance premium is affected. Imagine being a member of the teenage bracket. Imagine the effect of a traffic violation to the insurance premium.
When it’s time to pick their car, we can, at least, tell them that certain car types fetch higher auto insurance premium. A regular sedan will do the job and the auto insurance premium won’t be so high. A sports vehicle or sports utility vehicle, on the other hand, will further raise the auto insurance premium. A teenage driver behind the wheel of a sports utility vehicle is not a good idea insurance premium-wise. ...

Car insurance dilemma....what would you do?
May 26, 2007 by Jay S | Posted in Insurance & Registration
I just purchased a new car, and I thought I would shop around for new car insurance. I paid my current car insurance on the 15th of this month on my old car. I have to provide proof of insurance on the new car when I go to plate it in the state of Nebraska. Well, I want to switch car insurance companies, because I found a cheaper rate. However I'll end up paying two premiums in one month. Should I get the new car insurance now, and go plate my car on Tuesday, then call and cancel my current insurance? Or should I wait right before my current car insurance is due next month, cancel the policy, and then get the new car insurance? Will my current insurance provider bill me for next month anyway if I wait that long?
You should get the cheaper insurance, then cancel your current policy immedietly after. Your current insurance provider will credit you any unearned premium leftover for the month you paid for.

If I take out a loan to pay off a loan for a car do I still need to have to have full coverage insurance?
Jun 07, 2006 by ♥♫♥ Crystal ♥♫♥ | Posted in Insurance
I recently took out a loan for a car, I want to take out another loan from another financial institution to pay off the loan for the car because my monthly payment will be cheaper. If I do this do I still have to have full coverage insurance on my vehicle? I dont know that it matters but I live in the state of Nebraska.
The only reason you would need to keep full coverage on your car is if you use if for collateral on your new loan. If your not, you don't need full coverage.

Do all states now allow auto insurance companies to check your credit?
Mar 26, 2008 by Rebekah | Posted in Insurance & Registration
A few years ago when I lived in Oregon Auto insurers could (and did) check your credit but Washington law didn't allow it- you could get car insurance without giving out your social security number. I am in Nebraska and need to know- do I have to give out my SSN to insurers?
There is no ONE insurance company that is right for everyone - everyone is rated individually - and all companies have different "likes and dis-likes", different credit tiers, different business models, and many other factors that can vary your rate - and a QUOTE is ONLY a quote until the policy is issued.
Typically, insurance rates will vary from State to State and can even vary by ZIPCODE! It also will depend on the type of car/truck, coverages, limits of liability, and driving record. Some companies run credit scores and MOST run a motor vehicle report and CLUE (Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange) report to see about undisclosed accident involvement. A lot of these reports might get a BETTER finding with your SSN BUT we CAN get this info WITHOUT your SSN.
The best thing to do is call a LOCAL independent agent or broker. Don't go across town, or to some other city - look for someone CLOSE. Just look in the phone book for the PIA or Big I (Trusted Choice) logos and you will find a professional licensed agent that will be able to help you solve your insurance problems, and give you rate comparisons of several different companies.
An independent insurance agent will normally have a dozen different companies and if he cannot help you, he should be networked with other local agents that can.
In my agency, we have companies that do NOT run a credit score and welcome drivers with "less than perfect" driving records and specialize in youthful operators!
Most of the replies on this site say "go to this on-line carrier or that on-line carrier or that 1-800 number" but I'm sure that when you do, you will find some impersonal computer user with a script to work from and you won't be able to talk with the same person every time you have a problem!
Good luck, drive RESPONSIBLY and I hope this helps!
