How many years do I have to wait for my insurance to go down? Car insurance in Ohio?

I had 3 moving violations before i turned 18 and I just got my license back when i turned 19. I currently have my drivers license now and no vehicle because I cant afford insurance. how long do you have to wait for the accidents to 'roll off' of your insurance price? This is in Ohio, it might be different in other states.

For the most part, minor traffic infractions will drop off your record for insurance rating purposes after 3 years. Major ones such as DUI, and often reckless driving, racing, dangerous driving, etc. may affect your rates for up to 5 years.

My 16 yr. old son just got his license. He knows he won't be allowed to drive though until he secures a job in order to pay the insurance. I still drive him everywhere. His father & I share custody and both thought we should get quotes from each of our insurers in order to give our son an idea of what this was going to cost. I got ahold of my company and said I wanted a "quote" asking how much would it be to add my son on my insurance as an extra driver (he doesn't have his own car yet either). As you can imagine its quite high. Then they proceded to tell me that they would send out my new policy. I said no...I only asked for a quote. He doesn't drive and won't until he can afford this on his own. Plus his father is checking on prices with his company. They came back with...he lives in your household and is licensed, he must be added. And now I have a huge bill, that I clearly wasn't prepared for. So my quote turned into a forced payment. Any insight to this?

Call them and tell them you need to remove a driver from your policy because he went to juvenile hall for grand theft auto and armed robbery. He wont be home for a while. Or that he moved with his dad.

I don't see why not. If the car is going back to PA, then your insurance company should cover it, regardless of WHICH state it is in currently. While some companies may not be licensed to do biz in another state, so unless you have a little hole-in-the-wall insurance company, you should be ok, any National insurance company should cover you and the vehicle ok.

Qhe interest rate on my Citibank credit card was just raised from 16.9 percent to 19.9 percent. I wasn't late on a payment or anything. My credit rating is good and hasn't changed. The notice I got says I can opt out of the higher rate but when my card expires (next year), I'll have to repay the whole balance immediately. I thought credit card companies weren't allowed to raise rates anymore for no reason at all. --W.H., Euclid

Andeed, it seems your inter est rate was raised for reasons beyond your control. If the rate had been raised because your credit score dropped, the notice would have had to disclose that and give you the opportunity to get a new credit report at no charge. Your notice had no such disclosure.

I've heard from other readers with similar complaints. In fact, numerous credit card companies are raising their rates because they fear defaults will increase, even among good customers, if the economy continues to sour. The increased interest rate helps them hedge their mounting risk for the future.
