does anyone know of any good personal health insurance in Minnesota?
Aug 07, 2007 by flutterflie04 | Posted in Other - Health
I am currently covered under my dad's but will be graduating at the end of sept. and will no longer be covered, and my fiance also needs some as he is starting a new job and will not recieve their health insurance until October. THANKS!
If your fiance had coverage with the previous employer, he has COBRA rights. His previous employer should have sent him notification within 14 days of his termination date.
If he has not received the information, have him contact the previous employer and request COBRA continuation until his coverage becomes effective in October.
Otherwise, call around. BCBS, Medica, are a couple I know of that have individual coverage.
If his previous employer was not large enough for COBRA, then he would need to check into Minnesota State Continuation. In that situation, too, talk to the employer.

Anyone Familiar with Minnesota Care health care program/insurance?
Sep 30, 2007 by IloveMaryKay | Posted in Insurance
I had MN Care, which isn't Medical Assistance through the county, but more like a program for people who are under income guidlines but over the income guidlines for Medical Assistance (free health insurance throught county) for a few months, paid my premiums on time, then my husband was suppose to get new insurance through work and I let my insurance cancel, as in I just didn't pay anymore. Now I want to redo it but I'm not sure if I have to reapply or can I renew? I'm not sure what to do, but I have a LOT of dental work coming up and need this approved ASAP.
Yes, I do have dental coverage and no I didn't get the insurance through my husband. WAY too much money every week.
You will have to reapply. Anytime coverage lapses, you will have to reapply for it.
Do you currently have insurance with your husband? If you do, it doesn't appear you would qualify any longer.
Here is information re: MinnesotaCare:

minnesota health insurance?
Jun 06, 2008 by Grandma | Posted in Other - General Health Care
Can a single person with no children, and who has lost there job, get this insurance?
I've had to use this and it's a bit hard to jump through the hoops, but worth it.
To qualify, you must:
• Have a Social Security number or be willing to apply for one (unless you have religious objections)
• Live in Minnesota.
• If you are an adult and do not have children living with you, or if your children are over age 21, you must have lived in Minnesota for six months.
• Be a U.S. citizen or non-citizen lawfully residing in the U.S.
• Not have other health insurance now or have had health insurance (including Medicare), for at least four months except for Medical Assistance enrollees whose health insurance premium was paid for by Medical Assistance.
• Not be able to get health insurance through an employer who offers to pay at least half the monthly cost.
Some children may be eligible if they have health insurance. A MinnesotaCare enrollment representative will review your application and tell you if your insured children qualify.

Minnesota nursing homes to seek more aid - Minneapolis Star Tribune
09.01.09
As state officials begin pulling out red pens to cope with a nearly $5 billion budget shortfall, groups representing nursing homes and the uninsured said Wednesday they will ask the Legislature for millions in additional health spending. "We have to get past the narrative that this session is only about balancing the budget," said Rep. Paul Thissen, DFL-Minneapolis, who will sponsor legislation backed by both groups. "We can do more." Legislative action on spending bills is expected to start slowly while the state waits for a new economic forecast next month and for possible help from a new economic stimulus package under discussion in Washington, D.C. But both proposals face tough sledding, and health and human services spending may be prime targets for budget cuts. Gov. Tim Pawlenty will offer his budget proposal Jan. 27. One proposal offered Wednesday would cover about 77,000 uninsured children by 2010. A more modest bill in 2007, which passed the House but not the Senate, would have covered 20,000 children at a cost of $250 million a year.
